Remembering Mario

New Orleans lost a light with the passing of Mario Villa, a multi-talented artist who created furniture, paintings, sculpture and jewelry, and also managed his own gallery for years.

“I collaborated with Mario over the years, and am grateful for the exquisite works that I have to remember him by. The chandeliers and wreath bring fond memories. The chandelier was bartered for my botanical prints from Mario's Magazine Street gallery, where he represented my work. The wreath was traded for assisting him with monoprinting his series of faces, using my press.

He was an extraordinary talent. His spirit lives on in his works and our memories. His pieces will be cherished for their elegance, and spontaneity for many, many years.” — Frances
